The Charles B. Aycock Birthplace, the boyhood home of the former governor of North Carolina from 1900-1905, celebrates the life of the "Education Governor." During his term as governor, one school was built for every day Governor Aycock was in office, an impressive 1,100 in all. In the family since the 1840's, this historic farmstead includes the main house, barn, smoke house, stables and a relocated one-room schoolhouse from 1893. The site is located just south of Fremont proper between Raleigh and Greenville.
